Ukraine in memory: March for a Ukrainian memorial site in Germany

📅 May 8

🕐 13:00–14:30

📍 S-Bahnhof Friedrichstraße → Bundestag

On May 8 — as the German Bundestag holds a special session to commemorate the end of WWII — we will march through Berlin to raise a long-overdue demand:

👉 Germany must create a memorial site (Erinnerungsort) dedicated to Ukraine’s experience in WWII.

More than 10 million Ukrainians died during the war — as civilians, soldiers, forced laborers, victims of Stalinist repression and representatives of the Jewish or Roma communities. Yet there is still no official recognition of their suffering in Germany’s memory culture.

We march to remind policymakers and the public: Germany’s historical responsibility toward Ukraine did not end in 1945. It began in 1939 and continues to resonate today — as Ukraine once again defends Europe against the resurgence of fascism and the Kremlin’s hijacking of the memory of World War II.

We will be joined by key speakers — including S.E. Ambassador Oleksii Makeiev.

Further guests will be announced soon.

Join the march. Take a stand for remembrance.
Please wear black clothing — as a sign of mourning and historical reflection.
